Appendix on Human–AI Collaboration
For “The Philosophical Limits of Gödel’s Incompleteness Theorems”
This appendix accompanies the student preprint and records the author’s account of AI assistance, intellectual responsibility, and the implications of the collaboration.
1 AI assistance
AI-assisted tools helped with literature searches concerning Gödel’s incompleteness theorems and their philosophical interpretations. This assistance supported the collection of relevant sources and the navigation of discussions about human reasoning, mathematical truth, and the limits of formal proof.
AI also assisted with language polishing, including sentence clarity, grammar, and transitions between sections. Decisions about the interpretation of sources, the formulation of objections, and the final argument remain the author’s responsibility.
2 Implications for human AI collaboration
This collaboration illustrates how AI can reduce the repetitive work involved in searching for supporting evidence and attending to textual details. Delegating these tasks gives human researchers more time to examine the assumptions connecting a formal result to a philosophical conclusion, assess objections, and develop their own arguments.
The resulting division of labor still requires human engagement with the sources. Finding a relevant passage does not establish that it supports the intended claim, and fluent wording does not establish a valid inference. AI can make the search and editing process less burdensome, while the researcher retains responsibility for relevance, interpretation, and justification. The benefit is therefore a redistribution of research effort toward the questions that require sustained philosophical judgment.
